ST. LOUIS, March 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals (NYSE: MNK), a leading specialty pharmaceutical company, announced today that sites owned and operated by subsidiaries in its Specialty Generics business have been recognized as Manufacturing Leadership Award winners for outstanding achievement. The Specialty Generics business' Hobart, N.Y., manufacturing site earned the Talent Management Leadership award. This is the second consecutive year the site was recognized, winning three awards in 2018 for its highly successful implementation of key two-year initiatives designed to enhance multiple aspects of its manufacturing operations. This year's award highlights the site's Training Strategy Deployment project, part of a multi-year initiative, and focused on strengthening employee skill sets to bolster company agility and better support customers' needs and expectations. Through implementing a "70/20/10" training model – 70% hands-on, 20% coached and 10% classroom – the changes resulted in creating a more agile work environment and instilled a greater sense of pride among employees.

Specialty Generics' St. Louis, Mo., facility was recognized with the Engineering and Production Technology Leadership award based on its seven-year Chemistry and Facility Modernization initiative. This transformational, multi-faceted project sought to modernize processes and production while reducing operating costs and regulatory risks. Upon completing the initiative, a new production facility was opened, and significant savings, process improvements and efficiencies were realized, along with expanded site capacity.

"We are very pleased our Hobart and St. Louis sites have been recognized for manufacturing leadership by the National Association of Manufacturers," said Matthew Harbaugh, President, Specialty Generics for Mallinckrodt. "We are proud of the employees' efforts at both sites to become premier manufacturing operations to ensure we are both suppliers and employers of choice."

Harbaugh continued, "As we prepare for the planned separation of our Specialty Generics and Amitiza® business during the second half of 2019, retaining the legacy Mallinckrodt name associated with our founding in St. Louis more than 150 years ago, manufacturing excellence at all our sites will be vital to our success as an independent, publicly traded company."

Mallinckrodt will be recognized at the 15th Annual Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala, which is to be held on the last day of the Manufacturing Leadership Summit, June 10-12, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa in Huntington Beach, CA.
